Opened up a panel today and the neutral is not insulated as shown. I presume pulling new neutral is the best option to fix this issue
It's allowed 338.10(B)
If it was not allowed, you would have to pull an entire cable assembly as the neutral has to be within the same sheathing cable assembly or conduit. 300.3(B)

Are you sure it is sheetrock?

If it was drywall, instead of plaster it would be difficult to tell if it was Sheetrock® or not since any branding is only visible from the back, like Romex®, Twistlock®, Sheetrock®, is a trademark, used to prefer USG Sheetrock®, until they went to recycled paper, & it was almost impossible to hide the joints.

Canadians are way ahead of Americans on a lot of things.

O, Canada!
Can we come live with you?

:D

I was in Toronto for a few days recently; it was lovely. Lows in the 50's, highs in the 70's... just lovely.

Well, certainly true but as you know this has only been in the code for the last 2 cycles. So the are 10s of millions out there just like this. The Canadians were way ahead of us on this.

You know that and I know that, but the OP is an electrizzical engineer who opened up a residential panel (in his own house?) and demonstrated a misunderstanding of how service panels are configured, so I figured a precautionary repetition of something "everybody" knows might just save a life.
(and he's in Florida ... you know what they say about headlines beginning with "Florida Man ... ")

"Cartoon1", my apologies if you already knew that. If you didn't, pass the factlet on to the next do-it-yourselfer. Like texie says, there are tens of millions of this same hazard laying in wait out there.

You know, I met a bunch of very nice Torontoites while I was there who love the place irrespective of the cold winters. Cold weather you can dress for but 100+ F you can't. Here in Austin we just had what was by far the hottest June we have ever had, and looking forward to August and the remainder of July it looks even worse.

I suppose that's true, you can add as many layers as you need, but once you're down to your skivvies, there's not much margin to be gained.

Can't you put on a water jacket and depending on conditions pump either warm or cool water through it?

I could use such a thing:cool:
