i took my meter out and read 120 from the hot to the bx sheathing so it has to be bonded correctly at the panel...i thought gfi dont work without a ground bci tried it without the egc and the gfi didnt work..thank u 4 ure time

GFCIs measure the current imbalance between hot and neutral only. Did you push the test button or use a small plug in tester?
 
yes the bx is the feed and its in a plasticbox nm is feed a plug on the load side of the gfi the nm egc is spliced of of the bx shething

I understand that but it is not complaint. You will read 120V just as you would read 120V from a hot wire to a #22 gauge ground wire but you do not want to use it as a ground on a 20 amp circuit.
