Perhaps I was a bit flip,. Mike I had posted a link to thread I started some time ago when I first noticed a change in Mike Holt's graphic . I don't have code book in front of me right at the moment but 680 says something like
680.26(b)
"The parts specified in 680.26(b)(1) through (7) shall be bonded together..."
the things specified include

(7) Metal Wiring Methods and Equipment

Remember this list is specific ,. the words that follow are not even necessary IMO as metal wiring methods and equipment are defined by the NEC. But whatever the words are they describe metal wiring methods and equipment

The wording is crappy now and if passed,. that proposal will cause me to now bond plant hangers , door knobs and house numbers ,
IMO they were thinking only of pools. not about hot tubs . I said before that I did an outside hot tub that you could reach the door knob from. How in the hell am I supposed to bond a door knob...?

I think I may have argued the other side of this sometime in the past.

You did...but now you are seeing the light which is good. Improvement is good ;)

Thank you for all of your comments. As an Inspector in Oregon for 3.5 years, after 20 years in the field on the commercial side, I wanted to get other opinions on this issue, and man did I ever get them. I felt that 680.26(7) ?? and all fixed metal parts shall be bonded? meant anything metal fixed in place, as in a metal fence, metal storage building, metal awnings and the like as they are connected to earth in some fashion. I never did understand the bonding of metal window & door frames, as mentioned in the commentary in the handbook. But felt I had to call it because of how it is worded in the code and my fellow inspectors, who have been inspecting longer than me, have been citeing the same thing. I still don't understand how to get 680.26(B)(2) as stated in 680.42 with this plastic hot tub from costco. Thanks again for a great code forum discussion.

If you haven't noticed in the initial thread he stated that his gutter was metal but the downspout was plastic, so I would have to say that the down spout would not have to be bonded since it was plastic.
