the VD which is defined as (|Vs| - |Vr|) is the number you need to know to derive |Vr| from knowing|Vs|. In that same situation, knowing |Vs - Vr|, or even knowing (Vs - Vr) is not as relevant.
Yes. You are correct. For knowing the load voltage magnitude, a knowledge of (|Vs| - |Vr|) and |Vs| is enough. But for knowing the exact voltage drop in the feeder, it is not enough.
