Receptacle behind an appliance adjacent to a sink is one thing I said still isn't very clear as to the intent. Strict reading of as is worded - that appliance is not a barrier unless it is fastened in place. Ranges aren't fastened in place. Cooktops and ovens are though.
Whether a range is a barrier is not the issue, as the range cord simply runs from the range to the receptacle right behind it. The article tells us a recep within 6ft of a sink gets GFCI, but does not explain how we measure this...the CMP obviously forgot about the open wall space behind freestanding ranges, and that gas ranges have 120v receptacles. If we mount the receptacle down near the floor behind the range, we gain 10" or more of actual distance a tape would measure over using a plan view measurement, and can use a smaller counter between sink and range. For small kitchens and especially reno's where things like exhaust vents and windows are fixed positions, this added issue needs to be known.
What'll happen is a lot of range recepts will wind up piggybacked onto dishwasher GFCI's.
