That was a epic boondoggle, took a lot perfectly good vehicles off the used car market.

Bosch is the only range I know of that doesn't use Neutral to power their controls, fans, or even some convection elements.

They likely still didn't have much for incidents to base anything on. But this was about the time of the beginning of many things to come that didn't necessarily have much for justification either or were based on a rather unique single incident that had other contributing problems

I've run into some very basic ranges that had the typical 120/240 supply terminal block with removeable bond link in the neutral, yet had no load neutral conductor landed on it. These had no oven light no timers. Just four basic infinite control switches for surface elememts and a basic oven thermostat.
Had to install about 30 branch circuits and 30 of these ranges in apartment complex to replace existing gas ranges in a HUD funded complex. Gas ranges were deemed too dangerous, many the people living there were elderly, I not sure I agree or not, just some different dangers with each. I probably could have installed 6-50 receptacles and been code compliant. What happens though when they need to update a range or several/all of them someday and end up needing a neutral? Plus 14-50 receptacle and supply cords are more readily available and likely will cost less anyway. That is not as much a factor on a single unit but is on several units.
