romex touching dryer vent pipe

Didn't pass a final inspection. The unimproved basement had romex running through (across)the joist bays. The plumber ran the dryer vent pipe in one joist bay to the outside. He pushed the romex up on top of the dryer vent or under the dryer vent depending on the location. The inspector said the romex could not tough the dryer vent pipe. Is this a code violation?

Here my inspector doesnt have a prob with it and I dont think touching the dryer vent will cause physical damage, so i would ask him his reason and the code violation
 
I would think that the dryer vent pipe would have to subject the cable to a temperature that exceeds the temperature rating of NM cable. This is not very likely.

Sounds like another inspector that doesn't know the difference between his arse and a hole in the ground.

I, too, would be concerned about the transfer of heat from the vent --which can get down-right "hot" -- to the cable. 110.3(A)(5) and 110.11.

I think it is a worthwhile endeavor for the inspector to call attention to this condition, at least in the hopes that someone on the job can understand basic interest in minimizing the hazards associated with insulation degradation and take steps to remedy a potential problem.
 
Why would the electrical fail inspection? The wiring was install first.
Should'nt the HVAC fail the inspection for this?
 
Thanks for the replies. It wasn't an electrical, but a final. I put some wood blocking between the wires and the vent pipe and we passed. Its a 4" vent pipe for a dryer. It would never reach the temps that would be dangerous. I asked the inspector to site the code and he couldn't, but we fixed it. Don't want an inspector on your bad side.

Ditto that. For many years dryer vent were made out of flexible plastic hose. That certainly couldn't sustain a temperature of 194 degrees. The inspector got this one wrong.

The inspector is definitely wrong. So it's not way too quick for me too say what I said. :)
