Do you prefer EMT over PVC? I can't think of the last time I saw a residential service in EMT
I sure hope that's IMC or RMC. Nobody in their right mind would do a mast service in PVC or EMT.

Do the meter readers have keys to every house or do they have to make an appointment with the homeowner to read it?:-?

Our power company just installed meters that can communicate through the power lines. Formerly, we read our own meters and sent in the bill along with the card we wrote the kws and rate info on.

Flare of light in the lens from the sun. The meter's on the North side, east end of the house, so I'm looking right at the sun at about 3:00 PM.

Pushmatics are common for panels here, but replacement breakers are about as common as honest politicians.

Aren't QOs and HOs the same, just the HOs don't have the visi-trip?
QO is the Cadillac it has both thermal and magnetic trip. You get what you pay for but I am no fan of the pushmatic. Must be the salt air around here.

The riser's rigid. Below the meter is EMT. IMC would be allowed here, but I use GRC.... peace of mind, I guess.

EMT or PVC would be allowed if it's wasn't a mast.

Here's an all-EMT service:

I think QO and HO are twins, internally speaking. HOs just don't have the Visi-Trip.

Like it or not, it's used in about 98% of services here.

Here it's the other way around, probably less than 1% are done in EMT (it rusts and looks horrible after a few years), the rest are SE cable, PVC, and RMC for a mast or a "subject to damage" area.

I did an EMT service in a house not too far from this one about 12 years ago. I'll stop by Monday and see how it's holding up......

Then again, Iowa isn't exactly what you call a 'coastal' state....

QO is not even close to ho in quality. Home Depot put them on the map dont get me wrong they are OK in my book but no comparison to QO which is the finest resi breaker in my humble opinion. Think about it BOTH magnetic AND thermal trip. I rest my case.

May I ask why you need to box the top of the panel in? Are they planning on finishing this basement?
Protection against physical damage for those deadly exposed romexes. Duh. Don't you know that everyone plays lawn darts in their basement?

I don't see that one strand of NM on a running board and the NM going to the panel is likely under six feet in an unfinished basement. Needs to be in conduit.

That must be local code.
