This is from the page that I linked to on page 3,.. I think.

As authorities having jurisdiction, we have both the opportunity and responsibility to participate in the evolution of the installation requirements (NEC) and product standards that are related to electrical safety.
by Donald R. Cook and Alice-Claire Thompson

......."This edition (1996) deleted the specific exception for receptacles that supply sump pumps in basements. The permission to supply that equipment from a receptacle without GFCI protection was considered to be covered by the “appliance located in dedicated space” exception......."

It appears that the dedicated space exemption for GFCIs will be deleted from the 2008 NEC.

It's all a moot point as the exceptions for specific appliances are being removed in 2008. :)

For it only being the fifth month, you guys are really ?jumping the gun? !

It?s 7 months to 2008 and even then, how many states start the new code on Jan1st ?
Ohio went with March 1, 2005 for the last code cycle. . Some states are still on the 2002 right now. . When they finally jump to the 2005, they?ll probably spend 3 years enforcing that.

I think there?s still a lot of projects and a lot of inspections where this subject is still, and will continue to be, relevant.

David I don't think you have read the posts carfully, none of us has said that it is not a code issue now, we have pointed out is that whenever an area adopts the 2008 it will not be an issue.

I don't know how many but MA uses the new code Jan 1st and the other two states I am licensed in (CT, RI) either start on the 1st or very shortly (weeks) after that.

I can't help it if some areas drag their feet. :D

It'll be interesting to see how many feet are dragging when the whole house AFCI and childproof plugs hit the code. . I would guess that no state will exempt the childproof plug requirement [even if they don't agree with it, who wants to go on record as being against a child safety device ?]. . But some states might stay with the 2005 and others make 210.12 optional.

We'll see who does what

 Hey Bob, Have you considered that in some cases the States may just be trying to take the time to get things right?:D

I just wish they would take the Lobbyists and the politicians out of the process. If they would, we could do the same as your fine State.

Here in MA we have 60 or 70 amendments to the NEC and they still are able to get it adopted for 1/1/XX

It will be intreting to see what happens this cycle, so many changes.
