Well it certainly isn't foolproof. I'm sure some people or kids have in the past managed to injure themselves with disposals, but it's impossible to make the entire world injury free.Because if there were accidents you would have been notified so I guess they are perfectly safe.:roll:

'Disposall' may be a corruption of Dispose-All. If I recollect rightly, it was a model name of some brand of disposals.

Anyway, you can use the decora as a control switch but you would need either an additional indicating switch or cord and plug to meet the disconnecting means requirement.

Just flashback to a thread a while back with a good debate on use of Decoras on GD's.
Greenlee has a floor sw. for their wire pulling equipment, it's $400+ and is industrial grade
momentary contact with cord. You can get the Plumber into this to pipe in the 120vac
solinoid to automaticlly run water into the GD when foot sw. is closed. Mount the foot sw.

You can also get one similar to it at any tool store for about $30. I use one for use on a vac/blower when jetting conduits.

You lost me, part of the requirements of a switch used as a disconnecting means is that it is indicating.
A decora is not, a standard single pole switch is.
Of course ..... assuming it is cord and plug connected.
When I was doing dwelling units we never used cord and plug connections the GDs and DWs would be hard wired.
If I was doing them today I would probably go cord and plug connected.

Same here. I have never even seen one that was plugged in. And I've wired many a house, condo and apartment.
The only hard-wired dispolsals I've ever seen are ones with NM right into them...... obviously done by hacks. I can't recall ever wiring one myslef that wasn't cord-n-plugged.

I am assuming that you are joking about the hack thing. But in case you aren't why would you consider it a hack job with NM right into the disposal? This is perfectly acceptible. The wall switch is the disconnecting means.
