Unhappy cable customer

The fact that a customer is happy means nothing because they have no idea how something should be done. A trunkslammer jackleg can install a ceiling fan without any type of box and tie the 14/2 romex into a bathroom 20A circuit and the customer would be perfectly happy because it works.

You know, I came in here to try and offer some helpful CATV knowledge and get a bunch of smartxxx remarks. Are we in the first grade or are we professionals in our trade?

As long as his attitude is better than everyone elses here, I will take that job.

That was pretty good.

All I am saying is there is room for all of us as there are different kinds of customers. Some will demand certified technicians etc, others just want to know if it's done yet.

LOL Yeah OK. :D

Yes that is true, but keep in mind I already mentioned a legal install. Your example above is not a legal install.

You know, I am a member of quite a few different forums, but this is the first time I have been immediately baited by a senior member and a mod. Great site. Keep up the good work. I will stand by my offer though, if anyone would like more information or assistance with a cable tv project, let me know.

Kind of wondering do you generally start off as a new member of an electricians forum telling them they are not qualified to install cable TV?

Just thinking that might have had something to do with a less then warm reception.

welcome to the island of misfit electricians.

but really, you should lighten up. stick around awhile; you'll figure it out.

I noticed you replaced "splitters", there may be too many in the run, but usually it causes a couple of channels to drop out instead of just one. One house I trouble with, the electrician "looped" all of the cable outlets, which meant a splitter behind every jack, by the time it got to the end of the line, the loss was so bad that the masterbedroom tv had only 5-6 channels!

i agree there really are some dum-dums out there.

As far as telling electricians they are not qualified to pull CATV cable, they are qualified, its just the testing and troubleshooting that I think they should avoid. That, and the fact they should learn the max distances for the different types of cable. If they pull RG-6 over 150-175 feet, they are doing it wrond, plain and simple. I did not come here to start a fight, but I am not going to come in here and sugarcoat things and tell everyone its okay to do things wrong. As far as saying its a great site and keep up the good work, that was sincere. My typing got ahead of my brain and I can see how that came off wrong. I have been a lurker here for quite some time and find the info very useful. I may come off sounding harsh, but I alreay feel like I know most of you from lurkinig for so long. It is essential that the customer be happy, but having pride in your work is something that seems to be lacking in all industries to a certain extent these days. The hard part for me to stomach is "the customer is happy and thats all that matters."

Now, welcome to the forum

gee, that sounds like stalking. :)

testing and troubleshooting cable is not a no-no for EC's; from the demarc back of course we can't be involved with.
