So I am getting married in October and I was wondering what do you guys prefer for a ring? Of course I am not going to wear it during work but I was just curious what the best ring for a electrican would be if it did indeed matter. I have a master electrican telling me that 14k Gold is best. Now I could be mistaken but isn't gold a very good conductor?

my two cents, no jewelery should be worn in the trades...

I agree...here we go again with our great minds. ;) I'm not married so the ring is not an issue, I don't wear a watch either.

But then again I hate any kind of jewelry so maybe I'm a little biased.

I'm with stickboy, way to many hazards to catch on in the daily risk factor, not to mention electrical potential...

Gold is the best conductor of metals

Use fiberglass ladders. Stand on carboard when working on live panels. You'll be fine. When working over 600 volts take all jewlry off,
That new 08 code interlocking breakers for multiple circuits should help to protect us from loaded neutrals.

I take mine off and put it on my key ring when I'm doing hot work. Otherwise, I leave it on. Some women will "bother" you enough even if you're obviously wearing a wedding ring. I really need to keep mine on. I'm not interested in seeing what life would be like if I didn't wear a ring pretty much all the time. I have toyed with the idea of a wedding band tattoo. I know some guys go that route.

A tattoo.
It's no more conductive than you already are and it won't catch on anything that will rip your finger off.

If you are truly serious, your girl's name right around your finger....you may want to look for a girl named "May" or "Rose" and shy away from the "Josephine" or " Alexandria" lengths :D

I had a platinum, it was nice till I lost it.... Do yourself a favor and start things off right with your future wife and just let her pick it out for you... ;) Congrats by the way...!!!

Perhaps you guys didn't read my post fully. I said that I WAS NOT GOING TO WEAR MY RING AT WORK but didn't know what everyones opinion was the best ring to get was
Yeah, I read that, and since I didn't have an answer, I substituted something that I wanted to talk about.

The more carats, the flimsier the ring is. The less carats, the sturdier the metal is. The more carats, the shinier the gold, and the less carats, the more dull the gold finish.

Since you're not going to wear yours for work, no need for a sturdy ring. Since it's probably going to be for dinners out and to church and stuff, get a nice 24kt one.

I'm not going to tell you what to do, but I will give you my advice, if you plan on having kids, save your money and buy a plain old wedding ring...

I'm pretty sure my wedding band was 99 dollars. I forget exactly. This year will be 15 years.
