Wedding band?

I went with titanium myself. Light weight so it doesnt slow me down. If I am doing something stupid it goes into my pocket to keep me out of trouble. (by stupid I mean working hot just to clarify)

I'm pretty sure my wedding band was 99 dollars. I forget exactly. This year will be 15 years.

I think mine was $89 a year and a half ago. 14k silver colored gold, about 3/16" wide. Not terribly study, I'm in the habit of taking it off when I work almost anywhere.

So I am getting married in October and I was wondering what do you guys prefer for a ring? Of course I am not going to wear it during work but I was just curious what the best ring for a electrican would be if it did indeed matter. I have a master electrican telling me that 14k Gold is best. Now I could be mistaken but isn't gold a very good conductor?
Go with the 14k. anything with more gold in it than that is too soft for men. Unless you ride a desk or somthing like that.
I lost my first one by taking it off and putting it in my pocket, mostly when climbing ladders not for working hot.
I do the keychain trick now when I want a safe place for it.
I watched a guy installing a car radio get his ring to glow cherry red while it was on his finger. I guess 12 volts DC gets nasty too!

When I first got married, I wore my ring to work and took it off to work in panels and things like that...I lost it the first year. She bought me a new one, but I never wore it to work after that.
As far as the hazard, it is not just the electrical hazard. It is also a mechanical one. It can get caught on things and cause a serious injury to your finger. A firefighter friend of mine had to get 20+ stitches because his ring got caught on the door of the fire truck as he jumped out.

Many of the factories we work in prohibit all jewelry, this even includes watches.

I never wore a ring until I left the field and moved into the office.

Two marriages never wore one.

the second one was stolen by a guy detailing my truck, went back and he had quit.

Heard WAY too many horror stories not all involved electricity, one guy (I saw his finger years later as he explained the story) fell off a ladder and caught it on ceiling tie wire. Bad luck, bad mess.

I guess since this is in grounding verses bonding forum we should look at it from that perspective. I doubt it matters which type of metal you use for a ring. All are quite capable of carrying enough current to burn your finger off if you use it to bond the ungrounded conductors to the can or grounded conductors.

I would consider plastic, much less conductive.

Had a guy on my sub use the pipes overhead to swing out of the top rack (Thats a bunk bed for you landlubbers) for a fire drill, he was almost fully dressed out in his fire fighting gear before he realized his ring (And ring finger above the 2nd knuckle) was hanging on the pipehanger.

Never worm a ring to work in the field since.

For the OP, I have a simple gold with platnium inlay thats has some type of Celtic knotwork design, about $400 I think, I get alot of compliments on it (From women) because it is unuique.

...Some women will "bother" you enough even if you're obviously wearing a wedding ring. I really need to keep mine on...

What a stud:grin:

FWIW: I had always worn my wedding ring and never thought about it being much of a hazard. A necklace or bracelet is another story because they dangle. I guess their was some increased risk with the ring but I thought it was minimal considering the greater risks we face every day.

But my priorities have now changed, I took up golf and the ring started rubbing a callus so I quit wearing it. I have also added a few pounds over the years and was developing a constriction band.

I just bought my husband a tungsten wedding ring. The jeweler said it is gauranteed for life not to scratch, chip, or break and if your finger size changes they will replace it for you since tungsten can't be sized. This is the 3rd wedding ring I've bought him in 5 years. He works construction and is very hard on them. And, I am happy to say, he insists on wearing his ring all the time (unless it could cause injury). He's pretty cute and I think the women might chase him around if he didn't wear it.

Tungsten is the way to go and they aren't that expensive.

I'm always astonished at the level of censorship on this forum. Dissenting opinions are just not tolerated. Small minds...

And you'll just have to learn to live with it.

Well, at least you're honest, since you did not dispute my contention that dissenting opinions are not allowed. I respect that.

Having been "censored" many times I feel compelled to respond. This is a private site and the site owners are free to "police" it however they see fit.

The good news is that if you are not into the whole watching what you say thing there are site where anything goes.

dude the wedding ring you want is the on the makes her teeth shine and her eyes sparkle..and yours better match it enhances the eye sparkle..make sure you get nice ring locker as you would be farther head to store it in it..the girls in the bar they normally dont care if your married, in-fact they consider that more of a challenge..so you will probably have less women hitting on you without ring..

If thats how you feel then thats how you feel.

While I have your attention I was just wondering why you find it necessary to post under at least 4 different member names on this forum?

Kind of a puzzler to me.

I guess you might just keep forgetting your password ..... but then again four of them have been active this month.

Just odd, but I am sure there are good reasons for misleading people.

It's no secret that I have multiple user names, it funny how you reveal this fact as if it's some sort of crime. As for your nonsensical accusation that I have been "misleading people" I'd be interested in seeing some proof of that.

Again, I'm pleased that you have not disputed the fact that dissenting opinion is not tolerated here. Attempting to change the subject and attack me for having multiple user names is a childish ruse.

No?

I did not notice you being up front with anyone about it.

Not a crime, just odd.

I believe I have provided it.
