I wouldn't work for a jerk with a negative view of my trade like his.He only wanted to hire you to make him $Money.

The same guy had trouble pronouncing the letter "r" in his speaking. One day he was asked what he was getting into one weekend, and his response was "I'm gonna go ky-wackin (kayaking) on the Col-da-wa-da Wi-va (Colorado River). He was a horses butt, for sure.

Personally, I enjoy being an electrician very much. I get to take parts and pieces and build a system that will allow for someone to have a better life. I don't have to deal with the general public that much. People are usually glad to see me (even more happy to see me leave,{because I'm finished}).

My problem is I've let myself get pretty FAT and now my age (56) combined with being overweight is making it physically difficult to work hard and fast.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with being an electrician.

(This is a response to Mr. Wizard)

hardworkingstiff, did I offend somewhere along the line  Hopefully not. I agree with your statement of pretty happy being an electrician, though. I see a lot of these guys are considering a career change, how is that going to help your situation? Do a career change and now you're low man who is green. I can't see how that would be beneficial.

Bob, that's to bad about getting layed off, you'll probably be back at it soon. I'm in the same boat but spring is coming and work is gonna start again! Now if I could figure out how to be on the gulf coast for the winter and WA for the summer I'd be set : )

Didn't I see you make the statement that you are a dumbass for becoming an electrician? That is what I was responding to.

I started my own shop about 4 years ago. Had one employee for the past year, laid him off in December. I didn't have any work.

Since I'm self employed I cannot file for unemployment benefits unless I close my business even though I'm not working.

High end resi is my bread and butter here in the northwoods and it has almost ground to a halt. Had several big houses get cancalled last year. That being said I've been very fortunate to stay busy doing remodels and some industrial work and some consulting work. Things are always slow here in the dead of winter. We'll see what happens this spring. Usually the return of warm weather brings out people and thier wallets!!

Nonsense! I predict 60,000. :D

you might be right...i didn't realize he was at 30,000 already....i thought he was still down around 20,000....

i change my prediction to 50,000, with a hedge to Peter's prediction...

suffice to say, the post count of MH will increase significantly now that bob doesn't have to post in between pretending to work all day:D

Not a problem ........ ;)

I was not alone and this was not the first round of layoffs.

That said, the situation is simply lack of work coming in, they had to do what they had to do.

it's an unfortunate thing, and nobody likes to see someone dumped.
my condolences.

however, being kept is sometimes worse.... sitting home waiting keeps
you stuck with a situation that isn't working. getting cut loose sometimes
opens things up, in a disconcerting way.

my experience has been that when one door closes, another opens....
sometimes the length of the hallway between them sucks, however.

what would you do, right now, if you knew you could not fail? just a thought.

on a number of occasions here, you have said things here wihich really pissed
me off, but truth be told, your ability with the NEC far surpasses mine, and if
i have enough work to be leaving right now to go work on a sunday, you
should be able to tear holes in it. good luck......

I predict that the day of what is referred to as "high end" residential units is coming to an end. The banks just are not going to be able to finance these monuments to people's egos anymore, and there will probably be a huge number of them on the market for a long time to come.

I expect more modest homes to come back a lot faster.

Don't be fooled people!

Bob now works at McDonalds. I just saw him today....he makes a great order of fries!

If that were true, I would have to admire him.......he would just prove to me that he is resourcefull.....

but at McDonalds, he would have to take diversity training....:D and for that reason, I havent been back to golden arch since....Also quit Pepsi products...for the same reasons..........I know OFF Topic....!!!
