Could you elaborate on this? I don;t get it.

Why? Off -topic and irrelevant. He should answer via PM ...

Iwire, glad to hear you're back to work!

Work is very slowly picking up for me, not out of the woods yet...and I still am in limbo on one major bid, which I have been awarded but hasn't been funded yet. :(

I haven't worked in over a week now.

Dang, guys. I really hate to hear that any of ya'll are out of work or have lost your jobs. I won a very small bid a couple of weeks ago, but nothing to compell me to quit the shop I work for. Ya'll should come to Texas, at least the economic meltdown hasn't really hit here too hard - yet. Not to rub it in, but the shop I work for just landed a $4.6 mil contract, starting week after next. I'll be the general foreman on site for the next year or so, so I'm happy. Keep your heads up, guys. When all this economy B.S. is over, it'll be balls to the wall with work (at least I hope so!). Best of luck to you guys and your families.

Sure, prosperity always follows recessionary economic cycles. But when we return to prosperity is anybody's guess. I think we still have a bit more pain to go through first. Not only that, the gov't printing money like toiler paper is sure to cause problems...but oh well....life goes on.

Work has been good for some. If not for you what a great time to learn something new. I know so many who refuse to do low voltage or learn automation. What a shame - they just left money on the table. Like was mentioned, every aspect of our lives is served by a variety of electrical based services, the question is which ones are you willing to learn about to keep the jobs coming in?

WHoo HAaaa!

WHoo HAaaa!

I just noticed Ive got cash flow again. First time in a long time (over a year). Increase in advertising made the difference, and my Nonprofit customers I have been doing free work for are starting to insist I bill them. They are in need of a lot of work too. Its getting better. It was the advertising that did the trick. Internet yellow pages, Internet site, Craigslist, Local paper, larger yellow pages add. Like night and day. A BIG THANKS TO WHOMEVER SUGGESTED TO DRAG THE CUSTOMERS IN BY THE NAP OF THE NECK IF NECESSARY. Got a pile of em in the corner if anyone is interested. Its going to be a better day tomorrow. Going to bring a bat to work to beat the customers away tomorrow. Thank you Norman Vincent Peale!

If that Franklin character were still here, thank god (or some moderator) that he's banned

He might actually have something useful/currently related to say like:
God helps those who help themselves.

(Mike would approve) ;)

Friend, feel free to quote Franklin until you're blue in the face. You have as much right to post relevant quotes from historical figures in threads as the fellow who decided to take the time to create a sockpuppet to do so.

If you do so in your own name, you'd make Shakespeare proud:
Shakespeare said:
This above all: to thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.

As far as returning my thoughts to the downturn, I may be crazy, but I'm leaving the large shop I've been working for to try my hand in a partnership with a good friend of mine. Two man shop. The large company was a good one, I didn't burn any bridges, but I'm excited about taking this step. :)

Over the years I have seen alot of best friends become mortal enemies because of a failed business venture. The biggest problem is making the jump from two self employed guys to two guys who are working to build a company. Many times early in the business I did not cash my check but choose to plow the money back into the business. Many days were 16+ hours but I did not think about the time but was focused on the goal. The best advice I could give two partners is the first thing to discuss and get in writing is how you will disolve the business if you can get through this process without scraping the idea altogether then you have a good chance of sucsess
