If you want to invoke Mike's name and talk about how it is a reflection on him, then where is all the outrage over the foul language used on this site?

We pull foul language down all the time.

You hit the 'foul language' button more then anyone on this forum .... and that is fine, we can't take care of what we don't know about.

But just because foul language is the thing that trips your trigger has nothing to do with the posting of irrelevant and silly pictures.

As far as invoking Mike's name ... all the moderators where chosen and / or approved by Mike. It is our job to moderate the forum.

It just seems a little strange to crack down on some jokes when the foul language is no less professional. Would you do that in a professional workplace?

No, and again we do remove foul language all the time.

I have seen many posts cleaned up by the moderators, and I'm certainly thankful for that, but there are many times the language is overlooked. You know the moderators have seen it because they are responding to some of the posts.

Your right, sometimes I do ignore it as it gets to be a pain to have to edit every one of them. But to make a general statement to the effect that we don't take care of the language here is simply untrue.

Please don't take this as jab at moderators.

I don't.

Sorry about the rant, I guess I'm just more offended by the bad language than the humor.

I am not offended by either, I just don't think this forum is the place for either foul language or irrelevant silly, trashy pictures.

One last thing.

I don't think anyone is 'outraged' about either the level of foul language here or the silly pictures. I know I am not outraged about either. :)

I do find both issues unprofessional and if no one says anything about either nothing will change.

Well, IMHO, I was rather taken aback by the invoking of Mike Holt's name.

Certainly Mr. Holt owns the forum and provides some web space (which is greatly appreciated), but this forum is actually defined by those who use it. If Mr. Holt's "professional image" was at stake, I would think he would be a participant here. Yes, he has appointed moderators to do the "clean-up" duty.... but his absence makes me believe that this portion of his website is not all that important to him.

I hope the rest of you understand my point. I am not bashing Mr. Holt in any manner. I appreciate the forum tremendously. This thread has definitely been entertaining.

Well that view goes right past me, I don't get it at all.

At the top of my web browser it says 'Mike Holt's Forum' which to me means it represents him to some extent.

If it did not why would there be any rules at all about what we allow to be posted here?

In all fairness to Ken this thread has been hijack by others to argue about what should and shouldn't be here. Why not move all this other stuff to another thread so we can move on.

You can also ask Ken to remove the first picture if you all find it that offensive.

This is not a critcism of any one individual here , but I visit about a dozen different forums covering a multitude of subjects . This one is by far , the most " up tight " , stiff , humorless site I have been to . It was one silly picture and it was immediately pounced upon . Lighten up , guys . ;)

BTW , did Mr. Holt have a problem with the pic ?

Nope this thread stays as is.

I will say that the picture thread is soon to become a reality, this will let all that need to post and look at silly pictures have a thread to do so.

Who wants to go to a picture thread to look at silly pictures. The humor is there in relation to the thread. Oh well....

I'm kind of with you here Bob...:-? Let me think here....

I'm not sure why I had this little "brain pain" when you mentioned Mike Holt. I suppose I am just thinking that "surely nobody would think the worse of Mr. Holt because of some goofy photo posted on the forum." Maybe the issue, to me, seemed a little trivial to be invoking "Mike Holt's reputation."

Now, I was away for a few weeks and haven't been following the forum, so I don't know how many goofy photos have been posted. I agree that it certainly could get out of hand.

So, thinking as I go... back to the "brain pain"... it isn't so much Mike Holt's reputation that needs protecting, it is OUR reputations that need protection! I think we all enjoy the forum for its professional level, and I would certainly be dissappointed if it deteriorated.

To sum it up, I agree with your point of view. But not because of Mike Holt, but because of us, the people who use this forum.

Does that make sense?

Don't know but, this "one" pic is not the issue.

Actually that's not true at all...many times I'm "ROTF" from the things people say here.

At any rate, Mike Holt sets the rules and the moderators enforce them. That's how it is. It's his forum, not yours, so he's allowed to do that. :D

That's the problem, in many cases the pictures do not have any relation to the thread.

Thanks, we try.

In between all that stiffness how was the information you got here?

it was one silly picture and it was immediately pounced upon .

No, it was not just that one picture, not hardly there has been an every increasing amount of irrelevant pictures posted here for no other reason then someone wanting to show off their photoshoping skills or to show that they can post picture etc.

BTW , did Mr. Holt have a problem with the pic ?

I have no idea, I highly doubt he is even aware of it.

But this one did and look at the stink it created. It was a clever lead in from the "What's in your walllet? ads.

It was cleaver and it was also a great idea for a thread.

The fact remains that those types of pictures put out an unprofessional image and this forum is not Google photo.

Given the choice between being called uptight or turning off and loosing some of the very knowledgeable professional engineers, CMP members, instructors, inspector and electricians we have here it is not even a choice. Consider me uptight.

BTW, the picture really was not relevant to the thread, he could have just gone with the title.

Heres an example. I took this pic today. All the drain and vent plumbing is real glass piping.

I also belong to quite a few other internet forums, some electricians forums and others such as guitar forums.

This is by far the most professional forum that I frequent. I would like to take the time to thank the moderators here, they do a fantastic job.

I understand what this forum is geared toward, if I want to see random funny pictures there are plenty of other places I can go. But if I want to discuss and learn about electrical theory and code there is no better place then right here. I would hate to see this forum degrade into another generic internet forum where anything goes.
