Why is SER ground so large

Good thing conduit always gets ran on racks or we might be in trouble.
even if you have a completely metallically isolated pipe run, and yes that happens, its going to be fine. The world isnt going to end even if there is loose locknut. When did everyone become so nutty about grounding/bonding being this super holy panacea of electrical safety and like all the nuns and kittens are going to die if there isnt a green wire in there.....

The year is 2023. By now they should have been able to come up with some smokeless pvc or similar plastic conduit and therefor make this the preferred conduit of choice. And also it's been a good long run but metal boxes ? Metal fittings? Possibility of electrocution due to ground faults? Time to make it all out of plastic , and list it for every type of construction. End the ground wire slavery. We all can do without the third hole.

The rest of the world outside of North America runs on ~200v and nonmetalic wiring methods. I'd be OK with that maybe get us passed 1930s technology.

Some of you have clearly never had to tighten raintight EMT couplers from the top of a 32ft extension ladder. Wire EGCs for sure have their place.
Tightening them is usually easier then inserting the tubing into them though, whether on a ladder or not.
