Wire Pull

When you get conductors(phase and neutral) paralleled on reel do you also get the ground on the same reel or separate? Thanks.
Yes, EXCEPT, you can also get conductors on Wemco reels. That is separate compartments for each wire and then a separately spinning section that holds the ground wire.

Is it possible/practical to get 5 #600 on one reel. 600” run so they would be 3000’ on one reel?
Or would you get separate reels and pull in together?

Wire manufacturers such as Southwire can likely bundled any configuation you want. You would need to check with them on the maximum length they can put on a reel.

unless you have the jolly green giant in your crew...yep too big
You are looking at 4,000# per pull

When you get huge reels delivered to a site how are they offloaded then moved to the location you need?

Forklift or pallet jack assume? Electricians usually wouldn't have them handy.

If you are expecting to handle such heavy objects on the site chances are you already using heavy material handling equipment of some sort on that site. Though a regular forklift is mostly only good on hard paved surfaces and you need to consider that if you need to go off such surfaces.

Thanks. So what would you use if you were outside not on hard paved surfaces?

An all wheel drive telehandler most likely if I get to pick what I want to use. Sometimes there is something available that isn't necessarily optimal but will work, run into this the most when customer offers to let me use whatever they might have. A payloader might work though a telehandler might be more suitable.

How 'bout a forklift designed for unpaved surfaces? (kwired just got me on that)

None of these are difficult questions and all depend on the local conditions and the GC. It really sounds like you've never seen a large wire pull and that a couple of site visits would be a great help to understanding the process.

If your company is big enough for you to estimate this job you surely should have personnel with some experience and some equipment to handle these large pulls. Can you not discuss the particulars with a company foreman or journeyman who has been there and done that to see what equipment they have available or are familiar with ?
