Here's an idea.

I like this one-- no backing out of tight driveways.

I use a 12 ft trailer instead of a van no bending over to walk through.
Sparky is in charge of inventory control.

Yeah get a cap

I can't imagine doing this trade with my only vehicle being an open pick up truck.

I think the best thing you could do to set up a pickup would be to get a service body put on it or trade it in on a proper van. I know guys work out of pickups with caps, but I wouldn't be able to function like that.

I worked out of pickups for years.

One innovation was adding a layer to my pipe rack to keep ladders and conduit seperate. I built my own but you can add to an existing rack pretty easily.

Build drawers that slide out the back, onto the tailgate. The one's you buy (Packrat) are about 800 bucks and dont take up the whole length of the bed wasting valuable space.

I can't draw plans on the computer or I'd send you a sketch. PM me a fax number and I'll draw up something rough. There is actually quite a lot of space available in the bed if you utilize ALL of it and compartmentalize everything. For example, you can get a decent quantity of about 20 items in a single "milk" crate buy building 2 divided trays that stack in. You can probably get 20 crates on TOP of your pull out drawers, fabricate a hinged top and still leave a drop to securely contain items you need to transport.

Pickups only work well in the warm, dry western states. I noticed in my travels out there that pickups and utility body trucks are far more common than vans. But around here vans and the larger Knapheide utility/van bodies rule the day.
