Is it a PIA to splice through 12/4 in device box? Case in point, if you have 3 receptacles next to each other all on separate ckt and allowed to share neutral and you pull a 12/4 to the first device.

It depends on the cu. in of your box but it will be tight. You may be able to if your box has a minumum 27 cu.in. This allows a 12/4 and a 12/3 with a device grounds and a clamp-- not sure what you are using. Personally I would avoid it and put a jb above, if possible

3 gang box? Talking about 3 receptacles a few feet apart. So 4x2-1/8 box for each recept.

Well, cubic inches aren't the problem. With a plaster ring you've got more than 32 - 33 cubes and, by my count, you need 25.

Are you pigtailing, or landing a lot of conductors on the device?

That is how I would do it.

Use a 4'' square box for your first device with a 1-gang ring., and normal device box for your next two devices.
