Pentair Pool Pump GFCI trips

wrap the EGC 6-7 turns through a ferrite ring. @150MHz just a little choke and ferrite should make it look like a MΩ ckt and should bring amps down to zilch. try sticking the primary winding of a old xfrmer inline with EGC to see if the tripping stops.

Hello! I can't possibly tell you how much trouble I've been having with this issue. Two of my top 5 customers have moved to Siemens because of this issue, and I'm a Square D house.

Would you mind telling me what type of ferrite ring to use? I'm totally unfamiliar with that type of product, and I would love something to propose to my contractors so that they don't have to move their businesses. I've even brought the Square D rep down to talk to them, and they have no solution.

i would start with something like this, F240-31, and make as many wraps as you can, but dont jamb the ring, etc.

We're a square D house too and no suppliers In our region carry any Siemens. I get them from Zoro or a South Central Pools, a local pool supplier who matches the online price.

We should talk. Are you seeing issues with QO, Homeline or both? I have several Pentair vs pumps working fine on QO GFCI breakers.

Btw, the Siemens engineers were not on board with using a ferrite. I still plan on trying them once i get the right situation.

well, then perhaps they missed the boat ;)

for what reasons they missed the boat?

See attachment.

Sounds like they are "grasping at straws" with some of the reasons they give as to why the GFCI trips. Such as making sure the grounding and bonding are correct. Grounding and bonding are certainly needed and important but have zero to do with a GFCI tripping.
Short of some type of wiring fault regarding the EGC that is.

We wire alot of Pentair VSP. I have had several trip GE gfi's and regular seimans but get a "Pentair seimans" and see if that helps. They are more expensive but stops nuisance trips.

i ordered a inexpensive QPF, will be here in about 1wk. once i get it i will dissect it.

For what it's worth, I do know that a Cutler-Hammer CH series GFCI breaker will not hold a Pentair pump.

I installed two this spring and had to replace the panels and install Pentairs breaker which looks exactly the same as the Siemens breaker.

Yes that is the Pentair version of the Siemens breaker. The Pentair is a PA220, type PGF. The Siemens is. Qf220, tyoe QPF.

Siemens and Pentair just recently confirmed to me that they are the same breaker. I attached a TSB o an earlier post that Pentair had just sent me that week (It seems odd that it had no date) that's states they're the same.

Kind if a bummer that some of us have spent some much time and resources to wire this pump, changing breakers, panels, etc. gets expensive and starts to make it seem not worth while.

QPF is QPF, yes? 120 vs 220 QPF should be the same? Any manufacturing dates to be noted that would make a diff?

???confused here but yes QPF is QPF.

120 vs 220, I'm not sure if they're the same.
The Pentair version is only available in a 2 pole.

Well according to Pentair, the problem got worse after the self test was added but I cannot confirm this.

if the QPF has any type of filter then i would expect to see it in both 1pole and 2pole QPF's, is essentially what i was asking.

here's a few pics of the insides. it has two coils, L and N pass through each coil. each coil is connected to ckt board. coils are different, have not dug in yet to see what all the components are, but they all look to be industry std items.

the internal wire are 14awg, but the N pigtail is 12awg. weird.
