Taped Wirenuts

I'm in the not taping camp as one of my earlier posts says, but I will say the only connection I have ever seen fail with a wire nut was on a 480 vt motor. Wire nut burned/melted apart. When we repaired it we re-wire nutted it and taped it.

I don't personally like to see taped up wire nuts. With the solid wire prevelant here in Arizona, a sound mechanical twist up finished with a tightly installed wire nut is about as good as it gets. Just my opinon of course. :)

This thread will definitely end up on the hottest topics list in this month's newsletter. Just goes to show what's important in today's electrical industry. Maybe EC&M will publish an article on tapped wirenuts?

FWIW, I don't tape mine, never have, hate to find them taped in remodels.

When I worked as a Industrical electrican, we had to use fiberglass tape because it was so hot. We also use fiberglass insulated wire.

OK.

You can't just respond with three letters. The forum software requires at least 10. That's how I cheat so it looks like less than 10 letters. Someone finally noticed!

Now, how do you come to have that knowledge? Personal experience?
P.S. I've noticed your messy desk as well

Try a simple "Yes" or "No" response. See what happens.

My desk ain't messy! It's clean (relatively speaking, of course! You should see my truck.)

If we can go to 300, I might consider tape for time and material jobs. And in those pesky times when a conductor strand pokes out the bottom of the wirenut or I've stripped the wire too much and I'm just to lazy to fix it.

And in the worst case scenarios, I break out the silicone.

Just doing my part.

It is rare but I have taped when I thought it would help stablize the bunch.
