Here's the thing guys. It doesn't matter a darned thing what our personal opinions are on the matter of appearance. If I'm a business owner and I'm sending people out to do service work in people's homes, they are going to get judged based on their appearance and there's nothing I can do about that. Therefore, if I was in that position I would have to make and enforce an "appearance policy" and enforce it. A business owner can't afford to lose customers because his customers might not even let his employee in the door. That's just how it is....I see this strictly from a business perspective.

Too bad I couldn't bring you more work:cool:

I wear collared shirts and don't look like some TV criminal. I wear my hair tucked in. I'm real ugly, but not scary:mad:

A bit incomplete, in truth you will be drawn to those same type of customers. The long haired person, or has jewlery or tats will be drawn to his same type of customers....[/QUOTE I don't see many people with the long hair, tats and face jewlery that can afford my services!!

Brian, geez. How about you take the clean cut guy who beats his wife for help?

You give me two minutes with a customer, and I am in and welcomed.

I know how to deal with customers, and that's all it takes.

Nemo, I can tell your a smart guy and I'm sure your damn good at
what you do. The thing is ,some people will judge you by your price,
some will test you to see what level of education you have, some will
judge you by how you look compared to them. It's just the way it
is.

I didnt read the whole thread, but my guess you have a good reputation, along with the ability to make your customer feel comfortable reguadless of appearance.....I have a really good freind that is that way, can't stand to look at him, but I trust him TOTALY....

My grandmother would always say "Pretty is, as Pretty Does"

But if I am hiring (and getting a job is what this thread is about) and I have two equally qualified applicants for a job why should I take a chance on the guy that is visibly a non-conformist?

I NEVER asked you to hire me. I can do fine on my own. (Once I move again, that is:D)

Presentation and manners outway appearance ANYDAY. You can charm someone with manner, you can't charm hardly anyone with good looks.

Dude: You have never been to a singles club if you believe this....I have seen more than one good looking jerk land a few hot ones over the ugly nice guy.

Oh and there was a show on earlier about how fat people are discriminated against. Think this is because they are mean bitter people or because of their appearance?

I'd shave and get a haircut to get the job. After your in all bets are off.:D

In all seriousness, most of the time for me I'm scruffy, but if i have to go to city hall or meet an inspector I make sure I at least shave.

New customers get the same treatment, repeat customers get the scruff. I think I get more $$$ from them when I look tired.....

I don't want to land a woman that accepts jerks Brian. I am a good guy and don't need to be liked for any other reason.

When there is a contest for the king of ugly, I'll have my arms around three women:D

I was raised right. I know how to present myself. I guess luckily enough for myself, I am from a small town. Word travels VERY fast.

Presentation is thee utmost important note on a new job, but it has nothing to do with looks, (for the most part). So what, I have long hair and a beard? You going to get a restraining order????

I have built an image for my company and I want that reflected in my employees for they are the face of my business in the community.I do have guys with beards but the keep them short and neatly trimmed as for long hair it is not the style that it use to be so it is not an issue but i would limit the lenght if I were to hire someone.
