I don't want to land a woman that accepts jerks Brian. I am a good guy and don't need to be liked for any other reason.

I never said you did ,you said you can't charm with good looks. I am telling you looks do charm. From the beginning of time woman have associated good looks with success King of the tribe to head of a corporation. Heck female lions go after the lion with the best mane (best looking in the world of lions). The associate this with those most likely to provide success in child rearing.

Studies have proven both of the above.

Call me shallow I'll take a good looking woman over 3 dogs any day.

You know those real baggy britches that are in style and take one hand to hold them up? I know one guy who fired a person wearing them after telling him not to wear them again. He told him, this job takes two hands to work, and you cant be using one to hold up your pants.......:D

Interesting thread...

I voted no, as it was not clarified as to how much to cut off. I certainly would get a trim and shave before an interview.

Brother Nemo, I hear you. I did extended service work at times throughout my 25+ years in the trade, perhaps a total of 7-8 years. Never had an issue with any customers.

I cut all my hair off a few years ago, (a lil over 2 foot removed), prior to that, I never had a problem getting a job due to the length of my hair. It was always clean and neat. Length varied at times for one reason or another.

As for hiring....I have always tried to look past the phsyical and see who the person is 1st. Some of the best folks I ever knew were definately not the best looking!!!!!!!

Business or not, I think it quite shallow,if not prejudice, to base 1st on looks than on qualifications.

Seems a bit ironic considering how some folks come unglued as to raise or lower rates and preach that it is all about selling the superior service for the higher rates.....which I would assume would include the craftsmanship, skills of their employees. If the job is closed based on the sale pitch, doubt it would change due to the length of hair showing up at the door.:cool:

I cant really vote yes or no. It really depends on the job. If I know getting hired at a particular company will be the best in my interest, Id do what it takes to get the job.

ALso the fact that I used to have long hair, down past my shoulders always tied back. But one day I shaved it off and now it bothers me to let it get to more than 3/4" long.

But when I did have long hair, I would consider shaving it off if it was in my best interest.

I voted yes, despite how long my hair is currently...see the "What Do You look Like" thread in NEC for a recent pic. :D

Simply because hair does indeed grow back..and if I were going for a job that the general appearance "requires" short hair, so be it.

Luckily in the cinema biz no one cares if your hair is long or short..your ability and work ethic is far more important.

I've got two guys who work for me that look just like ZZ Top. Harley shirts etc. The homeowners look at them a little funny the first day....by the second day they're offering them coffee and donuts and asking what they want on their sandwich for lunch.
Being the boss, I have to look more respectable.

I started growing a goatee shortly after I took my previous job. I didn't shave to get the job, I had been clean shaven and just decided to let it grow. Anyway, I started it like on a Thursday and by Monday it was looking pretty good. When I saw the boss he says, "You didn't have that when I hired you, so get rid of it".

I voted yes.

I cut my ponytail for my present job - residential service. Didn't like it, but I did.
The rules are both very simple, and logical.
No long hair, no visible tats, no visible piercings, shave every day (facial hair OK, but must be neat), full uniform.

Professional appearance is important doing service.

How much do you guys pay for haircuts?

I bought a pair of Wahl trimmers about six years ago for $30.

I haven't paid for a haircut since.

I take my head down to #2 every two weeks
